U.S. Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise meet with Sarah Zagorski and other abortion survivors including Melissa Ohden, Lauren Eden and Michelle Smith.
Last month, Louisiana Right to Life’s Communications Director, Sarah Zagorski, spoke at a briefing with the Congressional Family Caucus regarding the importance of protection abortion survivors like her and the need for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. The other speakers at the briefing included Saline Infusion Abortion Survivor Melissa Ohden, U.S. Representative Mary Miller (R-IL), Dr. Christina Francis of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Family Research Council’s Mary Szoch.
The Born-Alive Act ensures that infants born alive after an attempted abortion receive the same protection of law and degree of care as any newborn. While the legislation passed in the U.S. House of Representatives, it failed in the U.S. Senate in a 52-47 cloture vote. The next day Zagorski joined other abortion survivors to meet with U.S. Speaker Mike Johnson and U.S. Majority Leader Steve Scalise to discuss the work they are doing in Congress to further protections for Born-Alive Survivors.
