How a College Student Turned Loss Into a Mission for Life

By Hagan Menard

Conversations. I believe it is of the utmost importance that we seek to listen to one another, hear them out, and find common ground. Thats how we move forward. When I first came to LSUA, I realized there was no Pro Life club, and I had heard about countless conversations and plans that ultimately fell through. Eventually, it hit me. “Wait, I can do this!” Change starts with you! Your voice is your power. Your voice is your strength.

My passion for the pro life movement started when I was very young, even before I understood what abortion was. My mom unfortunately had a miscarriage, and the weight of that loss from over 20 years ago still ripples through my parents’ hearts today. A baby, not yet born, had died, and it impacted my parents deeply. The older I got, the more disheartened I became by what is happening in our country. How could people end the life of their own child when so many others are struggling to have children or have experienced a loss of their own?

It made me realize that standing up for life is not about politics or opinions. These are real people, real humans, being sacrificed. Sacrificed for the lie that their mother isn’t ready to be a mother, for the lie that motherhood is too expensive or too exhausting. How heartbreaking to degrade women to those misconceptions? This movement is about being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves, but it doesn’t end there. It’s equally important to offer support to women facing crises, to empower them, and to help them see that motherhood can be one of the greatest joys of their life. Every conversation, every moment of listening, and every act of compassion matters. That’s why I’m committed to living out this mission every day. And not just as a belief, but as a responsibility to honor the dignity of every human life.
