In the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, the U.S. Supreme Court could overturn Roe v. Wade, restoring the ability to protect babies from abortion to the people and their legislators. If this happens, Louisiana is legislatively and constitutionally prepared to protect all unborn babies from abortion within the state.

In Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, at the center of the conversation is the unborn human at 15 weeks, which is before the point of “viability”. At 15 weeks, her heart is already beating and in fact all of her organs are formed. She can smile. She responds to touch, curls her toes, explores her environment with her fingers, and sucks a thumb. She has taste buds to experience the flavors that reach the amniotic fluid after her mother eats. Her brain connections formed at 15 weeks last through her adulthood. A number of mature brain structures and reflexes suggest that she can feel pain. She practices breathing and her eyes move. Remarkably, surgeons have successfully performed surgery on fetuses at 15 weeks’ gestation.
