An unborn baby goes through some dramatic changes before entering the world and meeting his or her mom– even before mom can see them on the ultrasound! From the moment of conception, to when a mother gets her first ultrasound (about 6-8 weeks), an unborn baby grows from 1/100 of an inch to about 1 & 1/4 inches with a fully formed heart and other organs continuing to develop. We can detect a baby’s heartbeat as early as six weeks, even though the heartbeat begins as early as 18 days!
At the appointment, she will see her baby’s perfect frame– eyes, ears, arms, and legs. Unfortunately, however, this is the time most abortions take place: when the baby is between 8 and 12 weeks old. By 12 weeks, all of the baby’s organs are present and developing, and now all the baby needs to do is take in nutrition and grow! In the subtopic section, you can get a detailed description of the miracle that happens inside the mother’s womb from conception to birth!
