AG Landry and Legislators File Brief in Response to Abortion Businesses’ Appeal

New Orleans – Last week, the Shreveport abortion facility, Hope Medical Group for Women, filed an appeal at the Louisiana Supreme Court challenging the Suspensive Appeal granted by the 1st Circuit Court of Appeal in the lawsuit against Louisiana’s 2006 Human Life Protection Act, as well as the recent 2022 Reaffirmation of Human Life Protection Act.

On Tuesday, AG Landry filed his brief in opposition to the abortion plaintiff’s appeal, and yesterday, 79 legislators submitted an Amicus Brief in support of AG Landry’s efforts. In the brief, they remind the Louisiana Supreme Court that “the Legislature of the State of Louisiana has long sought to protect the unborn and has consistently provided that abortion should be prohibited except in rare circumstances.”

Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life Benjamin Clapper said the following about Hope Medical Group’s lawsuit: “From the beginning, Shreveport’s abortion facility has been grasping at straws to keep their abortion business open, which is very profitable. We commend AG Landry and all the legislators who signed the Amicus Brief.”
