Baton Rouge – On Thursday, July 13th, Louisiana Right to Life will host an “Adoption Celebration” at the Louisiana State Capitol for the final passage of the Adoption Tax Credit, HB 443.

HB 443 was authored by Rep. Rick Edmonds and co-authored by Sen. Sharon Hewitt. The Adoption Tax Credit Act provides a refundable $5,000 tax credit for privately adopting a child under the age of 3.

The event starts at noon in the Capitol Rotunda and will feature remarks from state legislators, adoptees, and Louisiana Right to Life.

Sarah Zagorski, Communications and Adoption Education Director for Louisiana Right to Life, said: “Louisiana Right to Life believes that adoption is part and parcel to the pro-life cause as it is an authentic alternative to abortion. We believe HB 443 will help alleviate some of the cost burden for families and incentivize those considering adoption.”

She added, “Sadly, in Louisiana only 0.1% of pregnancy outcomes result in an adoption placement, which is why we believe we must do everything we can to support everyone involved in the adoption process. HB 443 is a step in the right direction.”
