Dr. Rashonda Dean, a native of Opelousas and resident of both Alexandria and Harvey, has performed abortions in Louisiana since at least 2012, primarily at “Delta Clinic for Women” in Baton Rouge and “Women’s Health Care Center” in New Orleans. Through conservative estimates, Louisiana Right to Life believes that Dr. Dean has performed at least 15,786 abortions since 2012 at these two facilities.
It was learned in early 2018 that Dr. Dean had left the employment of those two facilities.
Louisiana Right to Life filed a “Freedom of Information Request” with the Louisiana Department of Health and received documentation showing that Dr. Dean, through her corporation “Deanz Health Care for Women L.L.C.” (with registered agent Alexandria attorney Robert Bussey) had filed an application for an outpatient abortion facility license on April 10 2018 with Department of Health for “Deanz Health Care for Women” at 5437 Crowder Blvd in New Orleans East.
Deanz Health Care for Women L.L.C. also owns and operates a health care facility “Cenla Totalcare” at 3807 Prescott Road in Alexandria. It is not clear if abortions are performed at this location, but it does not have an abortion facility license. It also owns a facility at 1015 Union Street in Opelousas.
Further research indicated that this facility is only performing abortions and will not provide other women’s health services.
The NOLA Needs Peace Coalition, along with Louisiana and New Orleans Right to Life, is calling on members of the New Orleans East and Gentilly communities to make their voices heard and oppose the expansion of abortion in our community.
