Louisiana Right to Life has been active at the Capitol during the State Legislative Session working to advance our pro-life priorities! Take a look at all of the bills we are supporting this session as well as a few bad bills that we are fighting that are trying to advance abortion: www.ProLifeLouisiana.org/session.
We are excited to share that yesterday, April 1, three of our pro-life bills successfully passed our of their respective committees!
Prenatal Human Development Education (HCR 26) passed the House Education Committee! Thanks to Rep. Emily Chenevert for her leadership and to Dr. Johnny Voltz for his expert testimony. This bill helps ensure students learn the truth about life in the womb through modern, visual education. We are moving forward to thorough fetal development education in public schools!
Safe Haven Awareness Signs Act (HB 476) passed the House Education Committee! After heartbreaking losses in Gretna and Livingston, this bill helps make sure young people know there is a safe, legal option to protect their baby. We are grateful for Rep. Kellee Hennessy Dickerson for responding to tragedy with action!
Compassion in Miscarriage Terminology Act (HB 288) passed the House Health & Welfare Committee! Unfortunately, an amendment was added to the bill that makes enforcement optional. While this is not an ideal result, at least moves the conversation forward. We know women are negatively impacted by the archaic medical terminology of “spontaneous abortion” when it comes to miscarriage, and will continue to push for a change.
We met with the author of the Safe Haven Awareness Act, Rep. Kellee Hennessy Dickerson, and discussed this bills positive impact if passed. Take a look!
