Fourteen Women, One Urgent Need

In just the last two months, 14 pregnant women in crisis have reached out to Liv, Louisiana Right to Life’s chatbot, seeking help. Their stories reveal a reality many people never see: pregnant women across Louisiana are facing urgent challenges and searching for someone to help.

Some were trying to escape domestic violence. Others were searching for emergency housing. One was coping with serious injuries while pregnant and struggling to make ends meet. Each woman faced unique challenges, but they shared one thing in common: they needed help and did not know where to turn.

Before we can help a mother, we have to reach her. That’s where Liv comes in. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Liv helps connect women to pregnancy resources whenever they need them, whether that’s during a late-night internet search or in the middle of a crisis. Through Liv, women can find their local pregnancy center, learn about available resources, and discover programs that may be able to help them.

Pregnancy resource centers are often the first line of defense for women in crisis. They understand the resources available in their communities and work tirelessly to ensure that no mother has to face a difficult pregnancy alone.

Recently, one pregnant mother found Liv while desperately searching online for help. Health complications had forced her to stop working, leaving her unsure how she would pay rent and care for her family. Through Liv, she connected with her local pregnancy center, which helped her apply for Louisiana Right to Life’s Emergency Assistance for Moms Grant. The grant provided the support she needed to remain stable and focus on her health and children during a difficult season.

When local resources are exhausted or a critical gap remains, Louisiana Right to Life’s Emergency Assistance for Moms Grant can help. Through partnerships with pregnancy centers, we’ve assisted women with urgent needs such as rent, utilities, transportation, and other expenses that might otherwise make choosing life seem impossible.

What Liv is showing us is that the need is greater than many people realize. Every conversation represents a mother looking for hope, support, and practical assistance. While the grant currently serves women through participating pregnancy centers in the Greater New Orleans area, the requests we receive demonstrate a need that extends far beyond one region.

Every week, women in crisis are searching for help. The question is not whether the need exists, it’s whether we will be ready to meet it.

We want to expand the Emergency Assistance for Moms Grant so that more women across Louisiana can receive support for urgent needs like housing, utilities, transportation, and other barriers that can make a woman feel she has nowhere to turn.

Will you help us meet that need?
