Gov. Edwards Signs Heartbeat Bill

Just one day after the Louisiana House approved SB 184, Gov. John Bel Edwards signed it into law. SB 184, a bill to protect unborn babies after a fetal heartbeat is detected, will be effective on the outcome of a federal court case centered on a similar law in Mississippi.

Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life, said the following, “We thank Gov. Edwards for signing the Heartbeat bill into law to protect unborn babies whose heartbeat can be detected. Abortion stops the beating heart of a precious and irreplaceable unborn child, and the Heartbeat bill is another step toward full protection of the rights of these children. We look forward to a day when every baby is protected by law and welcomed with love in our state and nation.”
