Is Abortion Coming to Cenla?

Pastor Brian Gunter, director of outreach for Louisiana Right to Life, sent the following letter to Central Louisiana residents.

Dear Friend,

Dr. Rashonda Dean, a resident of Alexandria and prolific Louisiana abortionist, is now open for business at her clinic, Cenla Total Care, located at 3807 Prescott Road in Alexandria. I am concerned that she may already be performing abortions in our community, or she may plan to do so in the near future.

Based on publicly accessible documents, Louisiana Right to Life estimates that Dr. Dean performed nearly 16,000 abortions in New Orleans and Baton Rouge from 2012-2017. In a recent advertisement published in the Opelousas-based Cyntimental LOGIC News, Dr. Dean states that she is providing “compassionate gynecological care” on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at her office in Alexandria.

Dr. Dean also operates clinics at 1015 S. Union St. in Opelousas and 5437 Crowder Blvd. in New Orleans. On her website, she states of her New Orleans clinic: “It is the mission of this Clinic to deliver the best quality abortion care to the women of our community.” (DeanzHealthCareForWomen.com, accessed 9/25/18).

On June 8, 2018, 16 Alexandria-area pastors signed a private letter that was mailed to Dr. Dean’s offices asking her not to open an abortion facility in our community, yet she has ignored their pleas (copies of the letter are available upon request).

Dr. Dean has failed to respond to private communication, and the citizens of Central Louisiana still need an answer to the following question:

“Is Dr. Rashonda Dean currently performing abortions in Alexandria, or does she intend to perform abortions here in the future?”

The time has come for citizens of Central Louisiana to stand up and say we do not want an abortion clinic in our community. So that our voices can be heard publicly, a peaceful and respectful prayer rally and press conference will be held near Cenla Total Care in Alexandria on Friday, Oct. 19 at 12:30 p.m. This event will be hosted by Dr. Gregory Bevels and Dr. Sharifa Baker at their clinic, Primary Care Specialists, located across the street from Cenla Total Care at 3802 Prescott Road. Among speakers at this event will be Dr. Kathy Allen, State Director of Louisiana Black Advocates for Life. All Cenla citizens are encouraged to attend.

It is our hope that Dr. Rashonda Dean will stop performing abortions, regardless of the location. We hope to see a day when all physicians only use their gifts to serve the real needs of women and their unborn babies. More information about Dr. Dean and the prayer rally can be found at www.prolifelouisiana.org/dean.

For Life,
