There were 7,448 abortions in Louisiana in 2020, according to preliminary figures provided to Louisiana Right to Life recently by the Louisiana Department of Health. This is 9% decrease in the number of abortions from 2019, when 8,144 abortions were reported.
Shreveport’s Hope Medical Group for Women remains the state’s largest provider of abortion, and despite the overall decrease in abortion numbers, there was an increase (420) in the number of abortions done at that location in 2020. Women’s Health Care Center in New Orleans had the largest decrease in the number of abortions done in 2020, with 630 more abortions performed in 2019. Delta Clinic in Baton Rouge saw a decrease of 486 abortions from 2019 to 2020.
Abortion numbers are 27 percent lower than they were in 2014, when 10,211 abortions were done in Louisiana. The number of abortions performed in the state had increased steadily from 2008-2014 before the decline began.
On average, 20 abortions per day were performed in Louisiana in 2020, and Louisiana Right to Life will continue working hard to reduce these numbers until every baby is saved!
