National Right to Life Supports the ‘Dignity for Aborted Children Act’

WASHINGTON—In response to the discovery of 2,246 preserved fetal remains found on the Illinois property of deceased Indiana abortionist Ulrich “George” Klopfer, Senators Mike Braun (R-Ind.) and Todd Young (R-Ind.) have introduced the Dignity for Aborted Children Act (S. 2590).

“Americans were horrified when the preserved remains of 2,246 aborted babies were found,” stated David N. O’Steen, Ph.D., executive director of National Right to Life. “The Dignity for Aborted Children Act addresses the need to treat the remains of an aborted child with the dignity she deserves.”

Many Americans were shocked to discover that, after an abortion, the remains of an unborn child are often treated like common medical waste. Regulations regarding the disposal of biohazard waste are based on state and local codes.

The Dignity for Aborted Children Act would ensure that women seeking an abortion would be given the option of keeping the remains or giving the abortion facility permission to dispose of the remains. Abortionists would be required to provide burial or cremation of the remains or face a fine and up to five years in prison.

“Regardless of their stance on the issue of abortion, Americans from all walks of life were appalled to discover how children who are aborted are treated after death,” stated Laura Echevarria, director of Communications and press secretary for National Right to Life.

The original co-sponsors of the bill include Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Sen. Roger F. Wicker (R-Miss.), Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Okla.), Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
