Remembering Sharon Fontenot: Tireless Pro-Life Advocate

On March 10, 2026, the pro-life movement lost a tireless and fearless advocate who saved lives and was a consistent friend to moms in crisis. Sharon Fontenot of Eunice passed away after a lifetime spent defending the dignity of every human life.

Sharon’s commitment to life began in her own home. She was the loving mother of four children, including two who were adopted.  For Sharon, defending life was a calling.

For decades, Sharon poured her heart into the pro-life movement across Louisiana. She served as president of Louisiana Right to Life, founded the Eunice Right to Life chapter, consulted for her local pregnancy center, and helped organize Life Marches here in Louisiana.

Those who knew her best remember not only her dedication, but also her courage. Sharon was fearless in her defense of the unborn and compassionate toward every woman facing an unexpected pregnancy. She believed that every life mattered and her daily actions and life reflected that belief.

Sharon Rodi, Louisiana Right to Life’s Delegate to National Right to Life and Sharon’s close friend of more than fifty years, shared these words in remembrance:

“I knew the time would come when I would have to write this, but I never imagined how difficult it would be. My dear friend of more than 50 years, Sharon Fontenot, who became a friend to so many of us through Right to Life, went to heaven this afternoon to join her beloved Tommy and all the unborn babies she worked so hard to protect.

Now she’s in a better place to continue interceding for the pro-life cause… I have no doubt that we don’t need to pray for her; instead we need her to pray for us.

Sharon, we will miss you and we love you. Thanks for being a bright light in our lives. We will continue your mission to bring protection to unborn children”

Sharon was a friend and a mentor. Her passion strengthened the pro-life movement in Louisiana and her kindness touched countless mothers.

While her voice will be deeply missed, her mission lives on. The lives she helped protect, the people she inspired, and the movement she helped build will carry forward the work she loved so dearly.

We are profoundly grateful for Sharon Fontenot’s life. Her legacy will continue to live on.
