Today the U.S. Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade, and its subsequent 1992 decision, Planned Parenthood v. Casey, in a 6 to 3 vote. The decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health was penned by Justice Samuel Alito. Louisiana Right to Life has worked tirelessly for this day for 52 years.
Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life, said the following: “We celebrate the overturn of Roe v. Wade, restoring Louisiana’s right to protect every precious unborn baby from abortion. But we know our work is not done. Through an abundance of public and private resources, Louisiana is ready to support women and children before and after birth.”
Louisiana Right to Life has compiled an extensive list of Louisiana resources for pregnant and parenting moms available through public and private agencies at its ADifficultChoice.com website.
Clapper added, “Louisiana is ready to abortion-free. In 2006, the Louisiana Legislature passed the Human Life Protection Act, which protects unborn babies from abortion following the reversal of Roe. SB 342, currently on Governor Edwards’ desk awaiting his signature, updates the 2006 law and provides for consistency between Louisiana’s civil and criminal abortion law. Additionally, the Louisiana Love Life Amendment passed in 2020 protects our body of pro-life laws against state judges from “finding” a right to abortion in the Louisiana Constitution. We look to Governor John Bel Edwards and the Department of Health to enforce Louisiana law protecting life.”
Today Louisiana Right to Life will hold an in-person press conference with a virtual component at 12:30PM. For security reasons, please contact Sarah Zagorski to request location address. Media can also attend virtually. We reserve the right to deny any request via email, or at the location, as there is heightened violence toward pro-life organizations and charities. The pro-life movement is one of peace and respect for all human life. We aim for a violence-free future amid concerns about increasing concerns of vandalism and violence toward pro-life organizations.
