Knights of Columbus State Deputy Vince Whittington, First Place Winner James Redmann from New Orleans and Second Place Winner Michael Delaney from the Northshore with Youth Programs Director Trinity Wicker
This weekend’s Oratory Contest at the Knights of Columbus 120th Annual State Convention was a powerful and uplifting experience.
First Place Winner James Redmann from Jesuit High School with Vince Whittington.
Held at the Randolph Riverfront Center in Alexandria, LA, the event brought together passionate young voices committed to speaking truth and life.
We were honored to have two incredible student participants—James Redmann from New Orleans and Michael Delaney from the Northshore—who both delivered heartfelt, impactful speeches that reminded everyone in the room why this work matters so deeply.
With only a single point separating first and second place, the competition was incredibly close. James was awarded first place, and both students received their scholarship checks.
Because James was unable to attend the evening banquet, Michael had the opportunity to deliver his speech on stage—an inspiring moment that allowed him to still be celebrated for his powerful message. We were grateful to have David Allen from Senator Heather Cloud’s office and Sam Mistetta from the Knights of Columbus serve as judges. Sam, a former oratory participant himself, brought valuable insight and support to the experience.
Trinity Wicker, Youth Programs Director for Louisiana Right to Life for Baton Rouge and Louisiana Black Advocates for Life, had the absolute pleasure of connecting with these two young men. James and Michael carried themselves with excellence, confidence, and sincerity.
Their commitment to speaking up for life was truly moving, and I left feeling so encouraged by the next generation of leaders rising up. We are beyond proud of both of them and can’t wait to see what God continues to do through their voices.
