Department of Health Issues Letters to Abortion Facilities: Abide by Louisiana Law

New Orleans – Yesterday, following the reversal of Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the Louisiana Department of Health issued letters to all three Louisiana abortion facilities informing them of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health.

The letters stated that Louisiana Revised Statue 40:1061 prohibiting abortion is now in effect, enforceable as of June 24th, and abortion facilities are expected to abide by Louisiana law.

Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life, said the following: “Louisiana is finally abortion-free. With the Department of Health’s action, our laws protecting babies from abortion are now enforced and the state’s abortion businesses should be closed. Louisiana will continue to provide support for moms in need both before and after birth.”

According to public reports, Women’s Health Care Center in New Orleans and Delta Clinic of Baton Rouge have closed their doors, while Shreveport’s abortion facility has suspended performing abortions.
