Election Results: Louisiana Remains a Strong Pro-Life State

Gov. John Bel Edwards won re-election Saturday night, and Louisiana Right to Life is looking forward to continuing to work closely with him on important life issues during his second term in office.

Edwards beat Republican candidate Eddie Rispone by a 51-49 percent margin.

“We are grateful for Gov. Edwards’ pro-life record as governor, and we look forward to working with him during his second term to defend life and protect the health and safety of women,” said Executive Director Benjamin Clapper. “We also commend Eddie Rispone for his pro-life commitment as an citizen and candidate and wish him well in future endeavors.”

The 2019 fall elections in Louisiana have reaffirmed the pro-life commitment of Louisiana and her citizens, Clapper said.

“Saturday’s election confirms that all statewide elected offices are in pro-life hands, and overwhelming pro-life majorities remain in both the Senate and the House. With these pro-life victories, Louisiana will continue to lead the way for life in America in 2020 and beyond.”

The House and Senate both remain in good hands, with the majority of elected officials in both chambers having previous 100% pro-life voting records or having answered Louisiana Right to Life’s legislative questionnaire 100% pro-life.
