PLI 2025

Every summer, something powerful unfolds in Louisiana. Young leaders from across the state gather for a week that transforms not just their minds but also their hearts. PULSE Leadership Institute (PLI), Louisiana Right to Life’s leading pro-life summer leadership retreat, provides high school and college students with an in-depth experience designed to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become brave advocates for life.

2025’s PULSE Leadership Institute was no different — it was a week filled with learning, laughter, friendship, and conviction deepening.

Throughout the week, students participated in a comprehensive curriculum covering everything from Pro-Life 101 and Pro-Life Persuasion to more advanced topics like social media strategy, disability awareness, euthanasia, and the crisis of the abortion pill. Sessions were led by Louisiana Right to Life’s energetic youth programs team, along with guest speakers and professionals working on the front lines of the movement.

Students also gained insight into the compassionate side of pro-life work, learning about Women’s Resources, Adoption, and Foster Care, and how these essential services offer hope to women and families in need. These sessions highlighted the holistic nature of being pro-life by advocating not only for the unborn but also for the dignity and well-being of every human life.

One of the most meaningful moments of the week was our visit to Northlake Crisis Pregnancy Center. Students saw firsthand the love and support available to pregnant women in crisis, learning how these life-affirming centers offer free resources like ultrasounds, counseling, and baby supplies. Many students were inspired to write heartfelt, encouraging letters to expectant mothers as reminders that they are not alone and that choosing life is worth it.

But the week wasn’t just spent sitting in classrooms. After learning the fundamentals of persuasive conversation, students tested their new skills. In small groups, they participated in mock debates, addressing real-life arguments with logic and compassion. Their confidence increased daily as they practiced listening carefully, responding kindly, and standing firm in the truth.

Midweek, the students visited LSU’s campus in Baton Rouge where they entered the real world of pro-life dialogue. There, they engaged in respectful yet passionate conversations with college students on the quad, some of whom had never heard a pro-life viewpoint expressed with such clarity and love. Later that day, they met with pro-life Louisiana State Senator Regina Barrow at the State Capitol, sharing their testimonies and demonstrating to lawmakers that the next generation is prepared and eager to lead for life.

Of course, no PLI would be complete without a bit of fun! Every evening offered chances for laughter and bonding, whether through competitive group games, making friendship bracelets, playing “Just Dance,” or showcasing hidden talents at our always-entertaining Coffeehouse Talent Show. From rap performances and magic tricks to stand-up comedy and heartfelt songs, students relaxed and encouraged each other, building friendships that we know will last for years.

At its core, PLI is more than just a camp — it’s a catalyst. It’s a place where students realize that being pro-life isn’t just a belief; it’s a calling. It’s a space that challenges young people to dive deeper into the issues and empowers them to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

PULSE attendee and Southeastern Louisiana University student Grace Ostermiller said it best: “Before I came [to PLI], I knew that my family was pro-life, but I didn’t actually know anything about abortion. After attending PULSE, I understand what abortion is, why it is a human rights issue, and how to use facts to argue the pro-life side. I cannot recommend PULSE enough!”

As the week ended, students left with more than just notes and t-shirts. They left with passion, purpose, and a plan. The commissioning ceremony of PLI gave students the chance to share their next steps in pro-life activism with their new friends and family present.

Thanks to your support, PLI continues to develop the next generation of leaders who will defend life in classrooms, on campuses, in conversations, and throughout communities across Louisiana. We are proud of every student who participated in this transformative week and look forward to seeing how they will apply what they’ve learned to build a culture where every life is valued and protected!
