Texas Forced Abortion Case Highlights Need for HB 425 and HB 575

Baton Rouge – On Friday,Texas man Justin Banta was charged with capital murder after forcing his girlfriend to take abortion inducing-drugs, known as “Plan C.” According to Fox4, the woman had previously undergone an ultrasound and was expecting a healthy baby. Her boyfriend asked her to have an abortion and she refused.

This past week two pro-life laws, HB 575 and HB 425, passed through the Louisiana legislature that would protect and bring justice to women in similar situations. Read our full explanation addressing misconceptions on HB 575 here.

The Communications Director for Louisiana Right to Life, Sarah Zagorski, said the following regarding the Texas case:

The case in Texas highlights the critical need for HB 575 and HB 425 that received passage earlier this week in the Louisiana legislature. The ease of access of abortion pills online puts women and girls at risk for being coerced or forced, as was in Texas, into having an abortion.

HB 575 gives women the ability to sue the provider of abortion pills, whether that is an online seller or a partner. This certainly could help Louisiana women who are in similar situations as the Texas case. While criminal laws are in place to ensure abusers are held accountable, they still fail to bring justice to the woman victimized by the abortion industry.

It is a disgrace that the abortion industry continues to sell abortion pills to individuals like Banta without any concern of how they will be utilized. Sadly, this results in a grieving mother of a deceased baby.
